Naim Hasan was born and raised in Northeast Portland, where he attended Irvington Elementary School and graduated from Grant High School. Athletics played a critical role in his life, where he learned the important principles such as discipline, determination and dedication.
From little league All-Star baseball teams to being a three sport high school letterman in football, basketball and track Naim realized the importance of hard work. Recruited to play football at Mt. Hood Community College, Naim decided to focus on education and earned his AA degree in Business Administration and later his BS degree in Business Administration/Marketing from Portland State University.
With his strong desire to stay physically active and through the encouragement of a family friend, Hasan took an interest in marital arts. While attending classes at Mount Hood Community College, he began competing in Taekwondo competitions around Oregon, Washington and Canada. In his 14 year competitive career Naim earned over 12o trophies and medals in regional tournaments. At the national and international level he won seven gold medals, two silver medals and four bronze medals. One of his gold medals was earned at the 1988 US Olympic Taekwondo team trials, which provided an opportunity for Naim to compete in the 1988 Olympics held in Seoul, South Korea.
According to Naim, “it has taken years of reflection to really understand and appreciate the total value of the Olympic ideals which is not just about winning medals but the importance of setting goals, developing a plan and committing yourself to being consistent at doing the work that matters most”.
Hasan enjoyed a successful 14 year corporate sales and management career in the Telecommunications industry working with US West & US West Authorized Agent. Naim provided voice/data hardware and network services to banks, schools, municipalities, and business clients. As a result of applying many of the strategies learned from his Olympic experiences, he earned several tops sales awards.
In 2002, Naim left the Telecommunications industry to pursue his desire to own and operate a photography business. Over the past 13 years his client list has grown and includes local, regional, and national organizations. Some of his clients include OAME, Travel Portland, Nike, Adidas, City of Portland, PDC, Portland Business Alliance, Ronald McDonald House Charities, Susan G. Komen and US Commerce Department.
As a member of OAME, he is grateful. “I love the networking that OAME provides and the stability of the organization. Sam has been a mentor to me, he even contributed money for me to be part of the Olympics in ’88. The organization is run like no other networking group I know of, with the ability to network with every aspect of government and its agencies as a client,” stated Hasan.
